Food and Agribusiness - Key Knowledge Initiatives undertaken by FASAR

To actualize its focus and commitment for the holistic development of the Food and Agribusiness sector, a specialized "Food and Agribusiness Advisory and Research" (FASAR) division has been domiciled within the Development and Knowledge Banking department at YES BANK. The division houses industry practitioners with relevant experience and expertise in key sectors of the Agri-value-chain and has been involved in the conceptualization and implementation of some path breaking projects and knowledge initiatives for both Government as well as Corporate clientele in the Agribusiness sector. YES BANK has been appointed as National Consultant by the Central Committee set up by the Union Ministry of Agriculture for developing the framework for selection of private enterprises for setting up of Modern Terminal Market Complexes for perishables at important urban centers across the country Prior to this, YES BANK was mandated by the National Institute of Agricultural Marketing (NIAM) to structure the “Optimal Operational and Ownership model of the Modern Terminal Markets” project being spearheaded by the Ministry of Agriculture
  • Ministry of Commerce, Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA)
  • YES BANK was awarded a prestigious assignment on “Rationalization and streamlining of existing procedures and documentation in export of agricultural produce” by APEDA The report was highly appreciated by the inter-ministerial group setup by the PMO and YES BANK was subsequently awarded another assignment on “Restructuring of APEDA” in order to confirm to the proposed APEDA Amendment Bill 2007
      • The assignment involves global benchmarking so as to migrate successful examples of export restructuring and related infrastructure planning and human resource development to the Indian context
    YES BANK has been recently awarded a prestigious assignment on “Fast track development of Agricultural Export Zones (AEZ’s) through PPP in the country” by APEDA
    • Government of Rajasthan
    YES BANK has been mandated by National Institute of Agricultural Marketing and Government of Rajasthan for undertaking the “Assessment of Regulated Agricultural Markets in the State of Rajasthan” and recommended a “Strategy for Development and Modernization” of these markets
    • YES BANK has been mandated for Preparation of Feasibility study for the proposed Modern Terminal Market at Jaipur.
    • Government of Punjab

    YES BANK has been appointed as consultant for selection of private enterprises for setting up of Modern Terminal Market Complexes in Punjab.

    • Government of Orissa

    YES BANK has been appointed as consultant for preparation of Detailed Project Reports for setting up of Modern Terminal Markets at Cuttak & Berhampur.

    • Government of Haryana
    YES BANK has been mandated by The Haryana State Co-operative Supply &     Marketing Federation Limited (HAFED) for preparation of Long Term Vision and Comprehensive Business Plan.
    • Government of Gujarat
    YES BANK has entered into an MOU to assist in developing an Integrated Agro Food Park in Gujarat on PPP basis with Gujarat Agro Industries Corporation. YES BANK has entered into an MOU with Gujarat State Agricultural Marketing Board and APMC, Surat to assist in developing a Modern F&V market in Surat, Gujarat.
    • Government of West Bengal
    YES BANK was mandated by the Department of Marketing, Government of West Bengal for preparation of “Agricultural Marketing – Vision 2010” document.
    • Government of Andhra Pradesh
    YES BANK along with NABARD carried out the “Assessment of the existing infrastructure of key Agricultural Produce Markets in Andhra Pradesh” and recommended a “Strategy for Development and Modernization” of these markets
    • Ministry of Food Processing Industries (MFPI)
  • YES BANK submitted its recommendations to MFPI (on project approach for linking the micro and medium sector with the demand side of the food value chain) upon their request to evaluate their Vision Document
  • Initiated work on the project development based approach for enhanced commercial lending to the rural micro sector, and the catalytic role that can be played by the Ministry for up-scaling and upgrading of Indian Agribusiness sector
    • Ministry of Science & Technology - Department of Biotechnology (DBT)
  • DBT has authorized YES BANK to undertake commercialization of the TERI- Micro propagation Technology Park
      • Post assessment and valuation of this DBT funded tissue culture facility; YES BANK would assess the commercial value of the facility and bring in corporates to utilize the same for collaborative research and/ or contract production
  • YES BANK was inducted in the DBT working groups on ‘Agribusiness’ and ‘Biotech parks’ which were involved in formulating the National Biotech Policy.
  • Mandated for conducting the “Financial and Technical Assessment of Lucknow Biotechnology Park”.

    YES BANK was inducted in the “Working Group on Agricultural Marketing Infrastructure and Policy for XI Five Year Plan”
    • “Sub-Group on Agricultural Exports for XI Five Year Plan”

    • Indian Tea Industry – The Next Frontier, November 2007 – This report was released in association with Indian Tea Association at India International Tea Convention held at Guwahati.
    • Rural Retail-The Next Phase in Retailing, September, 2007- This report was released at the CII-“Conference on Rural Retail-The Next Phase in Retailing” held at New Delhi.
    • Agribusiness in Gujarat: Unleashing the potential, November, 2006 – This report focussing on the Agribusiness opportunities in Gujarat, with emphasis on Food Processing was released during the Agri Fare 2006 by the Honourable Minister for Science & Technology Dr.Jiang Hesheng, Guangxi Autonomous Province, Republic of China
    • Indian Agriculture: Winds of Change, October, 2006 – This report was launched by the Honourable Prime Minister, Dr. Manmohan Singh during the Agri Summit 2006.
    • Bio-Diesel: An Insight into Green Gold, June, 2006 – This report was released at the CII - “International Conference on Biofuels” held at Hyderabad.
    • Indo-Israel Partnership: The Agribusiness Opportunity, April, 2006 – This report was launched by the Honourable Minister for Agriculture, Mr.Sharad Pawar in Israel during the Agri-Tech 2006.
    • E-Agriculture: Empowering India, March, 2006 – This report was launched by the Deputy Chairman, Planning Commission, GOI during the International Baramati Conference.
    • Indian Food Processing Industry: Chapter in the Knowledge Report “Discovery of India”, March 2006 – This report was released during the 16th Asian Corporate Conference organized by Asia Society.
    • “Say Yes to Agribusiness”- This report was launched by the Union Minister of Agriculture, Mr. Sharad Pawar during the 6th Annual Baramati Conference in 9-12th March 2006.

    Several corporates have experienced our expertise in the Food and agribusiness domains. A gist of the same has been presented below:

    • Advising a leading detergent company for entry into rural retailing business with specific attention to agri inputs.
    • Advising a leading Indian seeds company for raising growth capital for their fresh produce and retail business.
    • Advising a leading Indian corporate on diversification into Organic farming of Fruits & Vegetables and an entry to Bio-fuels
    • Advising a leading Indian conglomerate for roping in a strategic partner for distribution of F&V in international markets and for cash and carry business in the domestic market.
    • Advising a leading developer in South India on Integrated Agro-Food Parks in the states of Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Maharashtra.
    • Advised a large corporate group based in North India on the entry strategy for fresh produce business and in securing both, backward and forward linkages, for the business
    • Advised a leading shipping conglomerate on business potential for Gamma Irradiation application in food industry in India
    • Advised a leading NGO in China in setting up of an enterprise for cultivation of Organic Fruits and Vegetables under glass house conditions through contract farming.

  • YES BANK has secured a strategic alliance with Alterra, a leading international knowledge institution and part of Wageningen University Research Centre, Netherlands.
    The key objective behind this partnership is to achieve successful implementation of the unique Integrated Agri Food Park concept in India wherein high-tech Agri production, processing and logistics would be integrated in a manner that ensures the creation of an efficient, effective and environment friendly business models
